What is VAI English?

We are two talented and articulate native English speakers from Maine, USA who are here in São Paulo to help you! We not only offer a dynamic, personalized curriculum, scheduling flexibility, and instructor variety for your English language learning, we also provide translation, consultation and narration services. With over 20 years of teaching experience, we are confident we can help you progress toward your communication goals!

Julia began giving private English lessons in 1994 when she first moved to Brazil from the USA.  Over the next twelve years she worked with clients of all ages, occupations and fluency levels.  She saw that she could really put her college degree in psychology to good use, applying what she knew about human motivation to her lessons.  In this way, she is able to help her students gain confidence, take more risks and even enjoy talking in English.

As Julia’s Portuguese improved, she began to offer other language services.  She has translated many documents ranging from CVs, to doctoral theses, medical texts, and menus.  After a six year hiatus, spent living and traveling in the USA, Julia is back in Sampa and is joined by her husband, Patrick, as her partner at VAI English.

Patrick, who studied English in college, has many years of experience as both a music teacher and computer consultant. He brings his sense of humor and patience to every encounter, assuring that those he works with feel at ease and have fun, too.  He is looking forward to applying his extensive knowledge of topical vocabulary and US culture, history and regional dialects to his new profession.
